The Public clock, with its metal tower, is more than 100 years old. It was made in France specifically for this town and it identifies Montecristi. Its bell chimes every quarter hour. The bell could be heard all over town. It is located at the intersection of Juan Pablo Duarte and San Fernando Ave. on a 10,000-squared meter park. Typologically, it is the same as the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The house of Maximo Gomez and Jose Marti is a Museum on Mella Ave. Here you can see pictures and furniture of the period. This house is important because this is where the manifest was signed to free Cuba and from where Marti parted to carry it out. This became known as the Cuban Manifest. El Morro is the most pictured mountain in the country. It is made up by two mountains joined by their ends which give the appearance of a sleeping dromedary (camel). Its altitude is 160 meters about sea level and constitutes the beginning or ending of the Cordillera Cetentrional. Its flora is very peculiar because there is a type of plant that can only be found here called the Montecristina. Because of this finding, the zone was declared a National Park and construction had to come to an end. Behind El Morro, we have the most beautiful beach in the country with orange sand and crystal clear water. In the water, you can see a big rock in the shape of a shoe that also attracts many photographers. Los Cayos 7 Hermanos: they are 7small islets with beautiful white sandy beaches, spectacular sunsets, and the islands are very quiet. You need to travel approximately 30 minutes before you arrive on land. There are many small boats that can take you for a modest fee. Information on Montecristi Population: 95 thousand 705 people according to a 1993 census. Location: Northwest coast, to the north, the Atlantic Ocean, to the south Dajab�n, to the east, the city of Mao, and to the west, Hait�.
